Monday 20th April
As we start our summer term some things are very different to a typical summer term at George Spencer Academy but also some things remain the same. As an ethos driven school with a set of core values at our heart we continue to make every decision based on our six values with our students at the forefront of our minds.
In response to this we have not made any changes to our Remote Learning Offer. Our staff will continue to support your child through Google Classroom with the aim of providing them with a quality learning experience. As per previous correspondence your child’s Director of Learning is available via email to support with any questions or concerns you may have. We will also continue with our enhanced offer for Year 10 and Year 12 as we aim to provide them with stability and support as they continue with their courses remotely.
I will be writing to Year 11 and Year 13 parents/carers today to give details of how grades will be awarded as per guidance from Ofqual. We understand it is a very unsettling time for the students and we will provide as much support as possible to ensure they feel secure about the next stage of their education.
Our In School Offer for vulnerable and key worker students will continue for as long as needed. We are increasingly proud of the children who arrive here each morning. They have consistently demonstrated the attributes we pride ourselves in as a school. I would like to acknowledge all of our students’ positivity, openness, and resilience when they are experiencing a very different norm to school life.
As we begin the unknown journey into the summer term the leadership team at George Spencer Academy are carefully planning for all eventualities for the coming months. In addition to grading for Year 11 and Year 13 students we are putting a lot of thought into the transition from year groups, particularly Year 6 to 7 and Year 11 to 6th form; support for Year 10 and Year 12 with their courses; the ‘end of year’ traditions for Year 11 and Year 13; Graduation for Year 8, to name a few. I would like to reassure you that no child and no year group has been forgotten. Our Pastoral team will continue contacting home to check in on students, however, if you have not yet had a call and have something pressing to discuss with us our Pupil Support Centre is open Monday – Friday from 8:30am – 3:00pm.
We are proud of the strong student and parent voice we have at George Spencer. We know with a school of over 1600 students we will have different opinions and views. We always try our very best to provide stability, support and guidance for all children under our care and on this note, I thank you for your ongoing support and also for working in partnership with us during these unprecedented times.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs H Corbett (Principal)
